In true Cambridge fashion, the annual Oktoberfest celebrated in Harvard Square isn’t your typical beer-and-pretzel bash. Now in its 36th year, Harvard Square’s version of the traditional German festival has evolved into a family-friendly extravaganza highlighted by the Honk! Parade beginning at noon on October 12. The parade consists of brass bands from around the U.S., as well as a pair from Paris and Russia, and features a horn-blowing, foot-stomping spectacle originating in Somerville’s Davis Square. At the parade’s terminus in Harvard Square, enjoy six stages of music, unique arts and crafts for sale, five beer gardens and plenty of international food for the more than 200,000 people expected to attend.
