Super Mario World
Celebrity chefs don’t come much bigger than the internationally renowned, New York-based Mario Batali, so when he opened his first Boston establishment, Babbo Pizzeria e Enoteca (11 Fan Pier Boulevard, 617-421-4466, babbopizzeria.com), on Fan Pier in April, people took notice. Eagerly awaited by local foodies since Batali announced two and half years ago he was bringing his signature Italian cuisine to the Hub, Babbo’s inexpensive, delectable pizzas are done to crispy perfection in only 90 seconds in a 1,000 degree wood-fired brick oven. And that’s not all. This 8,700 square foot hot spot near the waterfront of Beantown’s Innovation District is also where diners can enjoy a fine selection of antipasti (from charcuterie and cheese to salads and seafood), pasta and grilled meat dishes, all in an open and inviting room. Combined with the recent announcement that his Italian marketplace Eataly will open next year at the Prudential Center, it’s clear that Batali is about to become a familiar face in these parts.
