Laissez les bon temps roulez in Boston

Boston is a long way from Bourbon Street, but there are still plenty of places to get your beads on Mardi Gras.

Faneuil Hall is hosting its first official Mardi Gras parade on Tues. March from 2-5:30 p.m. Marketplace restaurants Cheers, Wagamama, Ned Devine’s, and Dick’s Last Resort will be decorate floats for the procession, while DJs from Mix 104.1 FM will weigh in with their favorites. New Orleans-inspired group the Hot Tamales will be leading the celebration. The parade itself is at 5 p.m.

The Hawthorne's “Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler” Bash on Tuesday night includes themed cocktails (Sazeracs, Ramos Gin Fizzes), New Orleans-style cuisine (fried oyster po' boys), and music from Mickey Bones and the Hot Tamale Brass Band. Part of proceeds will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training as they prepare to run the Boston Marathon.

The Beehive celebrates Mardi Gras with their annual “Le Mardi Gras” party. They'll have a special menu (with dishes like catfish and Cajun shrimp), drinks (their version of the hurricane comes with complimentary beads), and live music from the BT New Orleans Second Line Brass Band.

Mardi Gras is also a time for restaurants and bars around the area to showcase food and drink specials. The Cask N’ Flagon (62 Brookline Ave.) is participating with their version of the hurricane, the Boston Hurricane ($8), and a chicken gumbo ($15.99). Estelle’s (782 Tremont St.) has the "South End Hurricane" and a Creole-style two-course prix fixe. The two-course meal features an Andouille sausage and chicken gumbo as a starter, with either etouffee or Estelle's Creole seafood jambalaya as a main course.
